Board Meetings are held in February, April, July and November of each year at a central location for the members to meet. Often we meet at the Brainerd Department of Natural Resources Office. The board meetings are where the majority of the chapter business decisions take place. The executive board, regional representatives, committee chairs and student chapter representatives all come together to work on chapter business at these meetings. Annual Meetings and Summer Workshops are primarily held for education purposes with topics of interest to our membership and presentations from professionals. Our summer meetings generally include a field trip to look at ongoing management projects in addition to presented information. The annual meeting has a plenary session with focused topics for the speakers and concurrent technical sessions with shorter and more broadly based educational presentations. Elections, awards and change of officers all occur at the annual meeting as well as a business meeting to inform the membership of the work that the board has done over the past year. Every other year we hold our annual meeting with another natural resource related professional organization. The interaction with other organizations broadens our perspectives of natural resources issues and hopefully makes us better professionals. Presenters in the technical program at meetings should read the appropriate Guide to Authors for Oral Presentations and Posters, as well as Scientically Speaking produced by the Oceanographic Society -- all are great resources for presenters. In 2006, four major natural resource related professional organizations held the 1 st Minnesota Natural Resources Conference in Brainerd, MN. Professionals from the Minnesota Chapters of the Society of American Foresters, Conservation Biology, and the American Fisheries Society attended the conference along with Wildlife Society members. Over 430 professionals represented natural resources management well at this joint meeting. We expect to hold a joint conference with all four organizations once every three to five years. |
